( ACTIVITY. )

Activity Check

Here at Silent Spring, AC is relatively low to accommodate the busy lives of a largely working, late-20s-and-older playerbase, and so that the game is still playable for people whose lives during weekdays (or whichever days work) relegate them to being weekend taggers.

We require one (1) AC proof per month, either a thread of 5 log comments, an event toplevel posted no later than the 20th of the month, 15 short network comments, or 5 multiparagraph network comments. You may not use a thread with the same character for two AC periods in a row.

You can post AC at any time in the month, the earlier, the better! This makes it easier for mods to space out administrative work through the month.

We allow for hiatuses of 1 month, up to 3 a year, not back to back. Players get one strike if they cannot make AC (with the exception of extraneous circumstances - please explain these to mods as soon as you are able to even if you’re not sure you’ll be unable to make AC and just think you might not make AC).

All of this said, think of AC proofs as a small cross-section of expected activity, the absolute bare minimum. This is a very small game, and there aren’t unlimited slots. Out of consideration to the people who didn’t make it in after you, please don’t squat.

New players should post a comment with their handle in the subject line, and then reply to that comment with the following subject line: Character Name | Canon | Role (Husband, Wife, Child).
For each month, post a new comment in reply to the subject line with your character’s name and canon, putting [Month] [Year] (ex: “January 2024”) in this comment’s subject line.

What did your character do this month? Sans spent the month mostly observing the situation, learning how to blend in, and doing that. He visited the library and went through the physics books, learning some had been taken out. Unfortunately, his brother Papyrus didn't manage to stay blended in enough, and Sans spent a couple very upsetting days looking for him before spending yet more upsetting time dealing with his brother coming back mysteriously drugged. Later in the month, Sans would get caught up in the mannequin situation, spending his time with Sokka and Maureen trying to work out a way to get into the back rooms to get at the plumbing. Near the very end of the month, Sans attended the very normal dinner party where he refused to introduce himself in detail and questioned the usefulness of trying to murder a guy.

What did your character do this month? What's a girl got to do to be left alone long enough to finish a science project? Maureen's been building a homemade radio transmitter in the basement in an attempt to get into contact with her family, the success of which has been hampered by: experiencing NYE memory bleeds, getting trapped in killer mannequin riddled department stores (where she worked with Vasiliy, Sans and Sokka, and Beth to get their hands on water), and power outages (that sent her, Jupe, and the excitable family dog trekking to a neighbor's).

What did your character do this month? Arthur spent the month mostly learning how to navigate Sweetwater, with the assistance of his Haven Street neighbours: after getting kidnapped and drugged by Norman and learning this wasn't an isolated incident, he sent an invite to the rest of the street to summon all the newcomers to meet up, discuss where they all came from and what to do about their situation. This resulted in him, Numbers and Norton hatching a scheme to break into Norman's house - and getting Arthur and Norman arrested.

AC Proof: LOG thread with Dr. Norman Pollock ([personal profile] silentspringmods) and Agathe Marowski ([personal profile] frauseufzen) and Arthur Lester ([personal profile] lestercraft) and Numbers ([personal profile] workingthenumbers).

What did your character do this month? At the very end of January, Norton worked with Arthur Lester and Numbers to distract Dr. Pollock (via doctor's appointment and ill-advised flirting) while the other two broke into Pollock's house. So in February the aftermath of that is still rolling through. He's continuing to meet new people (particularly Agathe Marowski) and he attended Marjorie's dinner party. He also recently got a job at the department store and has a long term plan to Push The Button once he has access and has prepared some stashed food and water in a safe place in case the button is a murdery mannequin activation button.

He also acquired a new wife, Sam ([personal profile] requel). (Happened in February but assigned occly at the end of February so the thread started in March.) And he chatted with his new neighbour, Sherlock Holmes ([personal profile] detectivision).

What did your character do this month? Following the break-in investigation with Arthur and Norton, Numbers tried to suggest a 'book club' on the network--a cover for people to get together and discuss new information. (Which hasn't happened yet, because he feels it's suspicious if he's the one to host it.) Besides that, Numbers was mostly lying low to try and avoid further trouble from Norman or the HOA.

What did your character do this month? Maureen attended a dinner party where her main takeaways were: It would be great if everyone, locals and new arrivals included, would assault each other less; and the NYE hallucinations were weirder than she'd previously assumed.

Throughought February, she went door to door to various neighbors looking to rummage through their drawers for science fair materials, had a few sincere conversations while taking a break from Marjorie's Valentine's Day party, and eventually cornered her husband into strategizing for what happens when she sets her radio off and probably gets in a whole lotta trouble. Countdown to pressing the button(/me showing up again in the setting exploration post)...

What did your character do this month? Following the conspiracy party and after being dragged out by Vasiliy, Margaret came to realize the severity of the situation she found herself in. Realizing she cannot simply strong-arm her way through every situation through sheer force of authority--nor can she rely on the authorities to help her. Although she is continuing to lie low like last month, she's certainly become more anxious about it, trying to focus on carrying out her duties at the hospital in the meantime.

Also she met Sherlock Holmes and lost her shit about it.

What did your character do this month? Sans has mostly been buried in physics books for February, going through Dr. Ravichandran's books, setting up a rapport with him, and attending Dr. Ravichandran's lectures. He did, of course, take some time to go to Marjorie's party, where he really hated wearing a suit but still did it because he had to. He talked to Maureen outside about the stars, which was nice. Sans got a look at Toriel from home in that weird announcement, and so he's on kind of high alert regarding fitting in, since Toriel is not human. Also, she's dead, so he's kind of doubly alarmed there. But he can't tell anyone because that would be complicated, hooray!

Taking a strike this month 😔 (Unless it's possible to add different threads together to reach 5 comments, that I could do.)

BUT ANYWAY: this month, Jupe was very alarmed to discover Maureen already had the components necessary to assemble her radio (and went back on forth on whether he believed it was actually possible, depending on what made him feel better in the moment). He strategized (unhappily) with her about how and when best to use it. He also chatted with Marjorie at the party and saw Batman on TV (weirder than it sounds) while at Ed's.

What did your character do this month? Following that dinner party of alarming intel and even more alarming plans, Papyrus doubled down on working to be sure he can avoid trouble when he needs to. He stayed within the lockdown barrier after taking a couple walks to note where the boundaries were, traded some food, and made sure to attend the Valentine's Day party in full suit attire. When the question of a book club came up, he offered literary suggestions but bailed at the first hint of being the one to throw it. Papyrus also attended a few of those physics lectures - and I need to follow up on the option having him join as a student.

AC Proof: Network thread with Numbers ([personal profile] workingthenumbers); short network replies turned paragraph-long philosophy explanations. (Not sure if TDM threads count toward AC — if they do, I have a longer one linked below. If not, I might end up taking a strike for the month, as I’m not sure if this network thread is enough.)

What did your character do this month? Raskolnikov attended the Conspiracy Dinner Party, where he learned that other people were kidnapped and drugged, and came to the conclusion that the best thing to do is to shut up and stay out of Norman’s way, which he did throughout most of the month of February. During the dinner party, he briefly introduced himself to Margaret, and revealed that he’s From A Long Time Ago, Actually. He also spent some time trying to figure out how to use the network (and for the most part failing miserably); when Numbers proposed his book club, Raskolnikov brought up Victor Hugo’s The Last Days of a Condemned Man, though the conversation quickly spiraled into an explanation of his extraordinary man theory. Finally, he had a rather impressive argument with Joan on the TDM.
